Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed an impressive election campaign rally in Tiruppur parliamentary constituency, mobilizing overwhelming support for Secular Progressive Alliance candidate K. Subbarayan of the CPI. Stalin spoke on the historic enterprise of Tiruppur, known globally as the knitwear capital of India, which generated tens of thousands of crores in foreign exchange and provided employment to lakhs of hardworking textile workers from across the country.

Stalin expressed deep anguish that this energetic industrial engine had been brought to its knees by the unscientific economic policies of the Narendra Modi government. Demonetization destroyed working capital liquidity, while complex GST rate structures and chronic delays in disbursing duty drawback export refunds drove hundreds of garment manufacturing units into bankruptcy. Concurrently, the state AIADMK regime failed to provide housing, healthcare, or clean drinking water for migrant and local textile workers. Stalin condemned local ministers for taking zero initiative to protect Tiruppur's global export competitiveness against aggressive Asian competitors.

Stalin pledged that a Secular Progressive Alliance government will lower GST on textiles, expedite export refunds, and construct worker housing. He appealed for votes under the alliance banner.
