DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed a massive election campaign rally in the South Chennai parliamentary constituency, campaigning with great enthusiasm for renowned writer, orator, and DMK candidate Thamizhachi Thangapandian. Stalin highlighted South Chennai's stature as a premier cultural, educational, and information technology hub, home to thriving IT corridors along the Old Mahabalipuram Road and vibrant residential communities that had suffered from severe civic mismanagement under AIADMK rule.
Stalin criticized the state government and municipal corporation for their dismal failure to upgrade urban infrastructure. Key civic issues included the chronic inundation of residential layouts during monsoon rains due to incomplete storm water drain projects, severely polluted waterbodies like the Pallikaranai marshland and Buckingham Canal, and acute drinking water shortages during summers. He noted that IT professionals, small business owners, and coastal fishing villages in areas like Neelankarai and Thiruvanmiyur felt abandoned by the ruling dispensation. The state government had failed to build promised flyovers or extend metro rail links across congested suburban corridors.
Stalin promised that a DMK government will restore ecological waterbodies, upgrade IT corridor infrastructure, and ensure planned urban development under the Rising Sun.
