DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed a mammoth joint election campaign rally in Arakkonam, campaigning for former Union Minister and DMK Lok Sabha candidate Dr. S. Jagathrakshakan and DMK candidate A. Asokan in the crucial Sholinghur assembly bye-election. Stalin emphasized that Arakkonam held immense potential as a strategic industrial, defense, and railway manufacturing gateway connecting Chennai, Vellore, and Bengaluru, which had been squandered by eight years of administrative negligence under AIADMK rule.

Stalin highlighted the acute distress suffered by local agriculturalists and traditional handloom weavers across Sholinghur, Kaveripakkam, and Ranipet. The local tanneries and small-scale manufacturing units had suffered grievous financial shocks from demonetization and GST, while lack of environmental support had aggravated water contamination in the Palar river basin. Farmers faced chronic drought and water shortages due to incomplete barrages and silted irrigation tanks, while youth were forced to undertake tedious daily railway commutes to Chennai for low-paid contract work. The local AIADMK MLAs and ministers had remained completely indifferent to these pressing concerns.

Stalin promised that a DMK administration will revitalize industrial parks, desilt the Palar basin, and generate quality local employment.
