DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed a massive election campaign rally in the Ramanathapuram parliamentary constituency, campaigning with great passion for Secular Progressive Alliance candidate K. Navaskani of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), contesting under the Ladder symbol. Stalin lauded Ramanathapuram as an enduring bastion of syncretic cultural heritage, inter-faith harmony, and courageous coastal communities that had consistently resisted communal polarization.
Stalin raised grave concerns over the continuous persecution and distress suffered by Tamil traditional fishermen from Rameswaram, Mandapam, and surrounding coastal hamlets. He condemned the Narendra Modi government for completely failing to safeguard Tamil fishermen from brutal attacks, unprovoked firings, and illegal arrests by the Sri Lankan Navy, which had also confiscated hundreds of mechanized fishing boats worth crores. In addition, rural Ramanathapuram suffered from acute drinking water shortages due to incomplete pipelines and maintenance failures of the landmark Ramanathapuram Combined Water Supply Scheme inaugurated during Kalaignar's regime. Local chili, cotton, and paddy farmers also suffered from chronic drought and lack of institutional credit.
Stalin pledged that a progressive alliance government will secure fishermen rights, ensure regular drinking water supply, and revitalize rural livelihoods.
