DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed a vast and spirited election campaign public meeting in Sivaganga parliamentary constituency, mobilizing overwhelming public support for Secular Progressive Alliance candidate Karti P. Chidambaram of the Congress. Stalin recalled Sivaganga's glorious anti-feudal and anti-colonial history, noting that the courageous legacy of Queen Velu Nachiyar and the Maruthu brothers inspired Tamil Nadu's ongoing struggle to protect democratic liberties and state autonomy against central authoritarianism.
Stalin highlighted the chronic administrative neglect afflicting Sivaganga district under eight years of uninterrupted AIADMK rule. The region's dryland farmers faced severe agrarian stagnation due to unmaintained irrigation tanks, depleted groundwater tables, and the abandonment of long-pending river interlinking schemes. Traditional Chettinad cottage enterprises, tile industries in Athangudi, and local handloom weavers were severely strained by the burdensome GST regime. Concurrently, thousands of educated rural youth were compelled to migrate to distant cities or overseas nations in search of basic livelihood opportunities because state authorities failed to establish industrial clusters or revive the local graphite extraction plant.
Stalin pledged that a progressive government will renovate local irrigation tanks, promote agro-based industries, and expand employment opportunities. He urged voters to back the secular alliance candidate.
