DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed an immense election campaign public meeting in Virudhunagar parliamentary constituency, campaigning with vigorous enthusiasm for Secular Progressive Alliance candidate B. Manickam Tagore of the Congress. Stalin drew attention to Virudhunagar's renowned industrious heritage as a leading national hub for safety matches, printing presses, and the fireworks manufacturing sector, which sustained the livelihood of lakhs of working families across southern Tamil Nadu.

Stalin expressed deep sorrow that the historic industrial base of Virudhunagar was facing acute economic collapse due to the twin blows of ill-planned demonetization and complicated GST slabs imposed by the central BJP government. In addition, ambiguous environmental litigation and a total absence of timely legal advocacy by the state AIADMK administration had forced hundreds of fireworks units to shut down operations, pushing vulnerable cottage workers into desperate poverty. Small offset printers and weaving units were similarly crushed under high raw material taxes. Stalin condemned local ministers for remaining passive spectators while regional enterprises faced systemic bankruptcy.

Stalin promised that a Secular Progressive Alliance government will resolve regulatory bottlenecks, provide GST relief, and safeguard industrial livelihoods. He appealed for votes under the alliance banner.
