DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed an immense election campaign public meeting in Theni parliamentary constituency, seeking decisive electoral support for Secular Progressive Alliance candidate E.V.K.S. Elangovan of the Congress. Stalin spoke passionately about Theni's verdant agrarian landscape nestled against the Western Ghats, emphasizing that the district's prosperity was deeply tied to the uninterrupted flow of the Mullaperiyar river and the preservation of its fragile mountain ecosystem.
Stalin condemned the central BJP government and the compliant AIADMK administration for attempting to force the hazardous India-based Neutrino Observatory project upon the eco-sensitive Pottipuram hills against the resolute opposition of local farming communities. Stalin warned that blasting underground tunnels in seismic-prone mountains would permanently disrupt regional groundwater tables and endanger surrounding villages. In addition, the state government had failed to defend Tamil Nadu's legal rights over the Mullaperiyar dam water storage level, while cardamom and coffee plantation workers in Megamalai were denied statutory minimum wages and land pattas.
Stalin promised that a progressive government will firmly reject dangerous environmental projects and uphold agrarian rights. He appealed to voters to support the secular alliance candidate.
