DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and indignation over the partisan functioning of the Election Commission of India in Tamil Nadu, asserting that the autonomous constitutional authority appeared to be operating as a subordinate political partner of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Stalin declared that when the constitutional watchdog tasked with upholding democratic elections conducts itself with visible bias, it tarnishes the very face of Indian democracy before the world.
To illustrate this systemic institutional failure, Stalin highlighted the notorious Thiruparankundram assembly constituency bye-election fraud case, where fabricated thumb impressions were brazenly deployed on election documents. Despite explicit judicial observations and mounting documentary evidence exposing deliberate electoral forgery by ruling AIADMK elements, the Election Commission had persistently dragged its feet, failing to initiate criminal prosecution or take decisive punitive action against guilty officials and political conspirators. Stalin noted that this selective blindness confirmed that central regulatory bodies were being coerced to protect ruling politicians while harassing democratic opposition parties through targeted audits and procedural hurdles.
Stalin demanded immediate accountability and impartial vigilance from election authorities, reminding officials that constitutional duty transcended temporary political masters. He urged citizens to safeguard democratic principles on April 18.
