DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed an immense and vibrant election campaign public rally in Salem parliamentary constituency, seeking a resounding democratic mandate for DMK candidate S.R. Parthiban. Stalin spoke on the historic stature of Salem as a dynamic industrial and trading center of the Kongu region, renowned across India for its high-grade steel manufacturing, expansive powerloom weaving clusters, sago processing units, and rich mango orchards.
Stalin launched a fierce indictment against the central BJP government and the compliant AIADMK administration for attempting to privatize the iconic public sector Salem Steel Plant, a strategic national asset established through decades of persistent regional struggles. Stalin emphasized that handing over this premier public enterprise to private corporate oligarchs was an intolerable betrayal of Tamil Nadu's industrial self-reliance and worker welfare. In addition, Stalin reaffirmed the DMK's total solidarity with local agricultural communities who had faced police brutalities while opposing the forced acquisition of fertile farmlands for the unnecessary Chennai-Salem eight-lane greenfield expressway. Powerloom weavers were also suffering under excessive GST rates and yarn inflation.
Stalin pledged that a DMK-led progressive government will preserve the Salem Steel Plant, scrap the eight-lane project, and revive handloom incentives. He appealed for votes under the Rising Sun.
