DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed an immense election campaign public meeting in Thanjavur, campaigning for DMK parliamentary candidate S.S. Palanimanickam and assembly bye-election candidate T.K.G. Neelamegam. Stalin hailed Thanjavur as the historic rice bowl of Tamil Nadu and the cultural cradle of the Chola empire, affirming that safeguarding the Cauvery delta's fertile agrarian heritage from central and state ecological exploitation was an existential duty of the Dravidian movement.
Stalin condemned the central BJP government and the subservient AIADMK regime for treating the fertile delta as a hazardous industrial extraction zone. Both governments had approved destructive hydrocarbon exploration licenses, coal bed methane projects, and deep exploratory oil wells across Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam, threatening to turn irrigated farmlands into toxic desert wastelands. In addition, the state leadership had failed to desilt primary Cauvery irrigation canals, secure rightful seasonal water releases from Karnataka, or provide adequate financial compensation following catastrophic drought and pest infestations. Stalin emphasized that delta farmers required legal protection rather than destructive commercial ventures.
Stalin declared that upon assuming power, the DMK will enact legislation declaring the Cauvery delta a Protected Agricultural Zone and cancel all hydrocarbon projects. He urged voters to support the Rising Sun.
