DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed grave concern over the acute financial crisis crippling Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), where severe cash flow strangulation had left the premier public sector telecom entity unable to pay basic monthly salaries to its workforce. Stalin highlighted that the unprecedented delay in wage disbursements had pushed more than 1.70 lakh employee families and thousands of contract workers into immense domestic hardship, uncertainty, and psychological distress across India.
Stalin posed a direct and searching question to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking why the Union government was systematically driving a vital public telecom provider toward collapse while aggressively promoting the commercial interests of favored private telecom monopolies. Stalin noted that while private corporate operators were granted generous regulatory concessions, spectrum access, and predatory pricing leeway, BSNL was deliberately denied timely allocation of 4G spectrum and working capital support. This deliberate neglect aimed to dismantle profitable public assets and surrender telecommunications infrastructure to oligarchic cronies. Stalin affirmed the DMK's steadfast support for workers.
Stalin demanded that the central government immediately release adequate operational funds to clear all salary arrears and preserve BSNL's viability. He urged citizens to resist this corporate favoritism on April 18.
