DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound alarm over the mysterious disappearance of prominent environmental activist Mugilan, who vanished shortly after releasing investigative documentary evidence concerning police culpability in the Thoothukudi Sterlite firing tragedy. Stalin condemned the state law enforcement machinery for its inexplicable failure to trace the activist's whereabouts several days after his sudden disappearance from a railway station.
Stalin asserted that Mugilan had courageously organized a press conference in Chennai exposing video footage and official documents that revealed premeditated planning behind the police shooting that claimed thirteen civilian lives in Thoothukudi. He pointed out that under the authoritarian climate maintained by the central and state governments, dissenting voices, civil liberties defenders, and environmental activists were facing intimidation and suppression. Stalin warned that those entrusted with maintaining law and order bear constitutional responsibility for Mugilan's life and safety, stating unequivocally that until he is traced, public suspicion points directly at the administration.
Stalin demanded that the state police deploy dedicated search squads to locate Mugilan immediately and protect citizens exercising their democratic right to free speech, accountability, and environmental protection.
