DMK president M.K. Stalin reiterated his longstanding demand that the Tamil Nadu government must immediately convene a state cabinet meeting to adopt a formal policy decision ordering the permanent closure of the Sterlite copper smelting plant in Thoothukudi. Stalin recalled that from the very inception of the anti-Sterlite people's movement and during debates inside the Legislative Assembly, he had repeatedly warned that mere administrative executive orders would easily be challenged and struck down in higher courts.

Stalin pointed out that administrative orders issued by the AIADMK administration lacked the necessary constitutional weight and legal durability, leaving the door wide open for the corporate polluter to obtain judicial relief. He emphasized that only a clear, well-deliberated policy decision passed unanimously by the council of ministers and backed by state legislative resolution could provide an unshakeable legal foundation against reopening the toxic industrial unit. Stalin urged the state government to demonstrate genuine commitment to the thirteen innocent protesters who were killed in the tragic police shooting.

Stalin concluded that the AIADMK government must shed its vacillation, listen to the anguish of Thoothukudi residents, and implement a robust cabinet policy decision without further delay.
