DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed a vibrant "DMK Panchayat Sabha" meeting at Vendhoni village in the Paramakudi assembly constituency of Ramanathapuram district. Interacting directly with dryland farmers, traditional Mundu chili cultivators, cotton growers, and local women, Stalin listened attentively to the severe agrarian distress and livelihood challenges afflicting the parched southern districts under the indifferent AIADMK government.

Farmers in Vendhoni highlighted the complete failure of the agricultural crop insurance scheme, pointing out that despite consecutive seasons of devastating drought, private insurance companies colluded with state officials to deny legitimate claims to small and marginal farmers. The region's prized Ramnad Mundu chili cultivators lamented the absence of regulated markets, cold storage warehouses, and value-addition spice processing units, leaving them at the mercy of exploitative private brokers. In addition, villagers complained of unmaintained irrigation feeder supply channels connected to the Vaigai basin and acute shortages of medical staff and medicines at the primary health center. Stalin condemned the state government for ignoring Ramanathapuram's agrarian potential.

Stalin pledged that a DMK administration will set up dedicated chili processing centers and ensure timely crop insurance compensation.
