DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed a massive "DMK Panchayat Sabha" interaction at Chatrapatti village in the Sathur assembly constituency of Virudhunagar district. Interacting with local industrial entrepreneurs, powerloom operators, surgical bandage workers, safety match artisans, and rural women, Stalin examined the grave economic breakdown confronting one of India's prominent cottage industry clusters due to flawed fiscal policies implemented by the central and state governments.
Representatives from Chatrapatti's surgical cotton, gauze, and medical bandage manufacturing sector explained how the sudden imposition of an exorbitant twelve percent GST had crippled production, made exports uncompetitive, and forced dozens of micro-units to close down, throwing thousands of women workers out of jobs. Similarly, cottage safety match and fireworks manufacturing units in nearby Virudhunagar hubs faced ruin due to regulatory indifference and raw material taxation. In addition, rural villagers voiced anguish over non-functional underground sewers, dried-up open wells, erratic drinking water supply, and potholed village link roads. Stalin condemned the state AIADMK ministers for abandoning industrial hubs while engaging in corrupt tender kickbacks.
Stalin assured residents that a DMK administration will slash GST on medical gauze and establish modern industrial infrastructure in Chatrapatti.
