DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed rural residents at the Thanakkankulam panchayat sabha meeting in Madurai district, highlighting the severe economic distress confronting farming communities under the joint governance of the central and state regimes. He observed that ordinary rural families were struggling to sustain their agricultural vocations amid hostile fiscal burdens and administrative neglect.
Stalin sharply questioned the credibility of official agricultural support schemes, pointing to steep Goods and Services Tax rates levied upon indispensable farm essentials. He emphasized that authorities had raised taxes on necessary chemical fertilizers and crop pesticides, extracting immense revenues directly from impoverished farmers. The government subsequently returned minor token sums to farmers while labeling those modest payouts as agricultural subsidies. Stalin asked whether imposing onerous taxes and returning fractions of that money constituted honest welfare support or deliberate administrative fraud against primary food producers.
Stalin observed that such misaligned tax structures had crushed small cultivators who were already battling severe agrarian debt and drought conditions. He affirmed that the DMK would continue to champion comprehensive relief and fairer rural policies for agrarian families across Tamil Nadu.
