Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a scathing critique of the 2019 Union Interim Budget presented by the Bharatiya Janata Party administration, characterizing the financial proposals as a desperate electoral manifesto rather than a responsible governance document. Stalin observed that the central government had unveiled various relief announcements at the very end of its five-year tenure, despite failing to implement those foundational measures during its initial year in office.

Stalin stated that after five years of agrarian neglect, mounting unemployment, and economic distress caused by demonetization and poorly executed taxation policies, the ruling party was attempting to mislead citizens with alluring campaign promises. He argued that the interim budget used populist rhetoric as a transparent gimmick to distract the public from unfulfilled developmental pledges and economic distress. Stalin pointed out that presenting full-fledged policy declarations during a vote on account violated established parliamentary conventions.

Stalin concluded that citizens would not be deceived by eleventh-hour budgetary promises from an outgoing administration. He asserted that the interim budget merely confirmed the central government's electoral anxiety ahead of parliamentary elections. He stressed that working people required genuine structural relief, sustainable employment opportunities, and comprehensive rural support rather than empty electoral declarations.
