DMK president M.K. Stalin paid solemn homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his seventy-second death anniversary, recalling Gandhi's foundational philosophy that village communities constitute the true backbone of India. Stalin reflected on how the father of the nation envisioned autonomous, vibrant, and empowered panchayats as the cornerstone of participatory democracy and grassroots self-reliance.
Turning to the ground situation in Tamil Nadu, Stalin condemned the ruling AIADMK administration for plunging rural areas into complete disrepair. He stated that the state government had deliberately delayed conducting local body elections for years, depriving thousands of village panchayats of constitutional leadership and local representation. In the absence of elected civic representatives, fundamental amenities including drinking water pipelines, sanitation infrastructure, rural healthcare centers, and street lighting had suffered severe operational neglect, causing deep hardship to village residents across the state.
Stalin declared that the AIADMK administration had crippled rural governance out of fear of facing an electoral backlash from the public. He asserted that the DMK would soon put an end to this administrative paralysis and restore democratic decentralization across all village panchayats, ensuring robust funding and accountable local leadership.
