Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the state AIADMK administration for unleashing police forces to execute midnight arrests of agitating office-bearers belonging to the Joint Action Council of Teachers' Organisations and Government Employees' Organisations (JACTO-GEO). Stalin described the late-night crackdowns and unlawful detentions as the peak of authoritarian misrule, stating that democratic rights were being blatantly trampled in Tamil Nadu.

Stalin questioned why Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami exhibited such stubborn hesitation to invite employee representatives for open, face-to-face negotiations. He asked what false sense of personal prestige prevented the head of government from sitting down with public servants who implement state policies daily. Stalin pointed out that government employees and teachers had been agitating peacefully for legitimate demands, including the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme and the regularization of interim service benefits, yet the government responded with punitive force rather than constructive dialogue.

Stalin warned that state-sponsored intimidation and arbitrary arrests would only intensify public anger and disrupt essential administrative and educational functions. He demanded the immediate release of all detained leaders and an urgent negotiated settlement to restore normalcy across government departments and schools.
