DMK president M.K. Stalin lashed out at Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami for unleashing blatant intimidation against independent news channels and journalists reporting on the sensational Kodanad estate heist and murder revelations. Stalin pointed out the glaring cowardice of the Chief Minister, who claimed in press statements that he had "nothing to fear," yet actively weaponized the state police machinery and issued gag orders and criminal defamation notices to suppress critical journalistic investigation.
Stalin highlighted investigative disclosures made by former Tehelka journalist Samuel Mathew, wherein key accused individuals directly linked Chief Minister Palaniswami to the midnight conspiracy to break into the Kodanad estate of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to retrieve incriminating documents and cash. Rather than submitting to an impartial judicial inquiry or presenting transparent explanations to the public, Palaniswami resorted to intimidating media houses, filing police complaints, and arresting journalists. Stalin characterized these attacks on press freedom as the ultimate manifestation of guilt and desperation. He emphasized that in a vibrant democracy, the media has an inviolable constitutional duty to hold those in power accountable.
Stalin demanded that the Chief Minister step down immediately to ensure an impartial court-monitored investigation.
