Stalin questioned the moral legitimacy of an administration that showed brazen partiality towards violent party henchmen while denying statutory clemency to long-incarcerated prisoners.

Stalin drew a sharp comparison between the AIADMK government's premature release of three party cadres convicted in the horrific 2000 Dharmapuri bus burning case—who burned three innocent female university students alive—and its deliberate inaction regarding the seven life convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, including Perarivalan, who had spent over twenty-eight continuous years behind prison bars. He pointed out that while the state cabinet passed a resolution in September 2018 recommending their release under Article 161 of the Constitution, Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami failed to muster the political courage to press Governor Banwarilal Purohit for its approval. Stalin asserted that this cowardice stemmed from total subservience to the BJP.
