DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed a massive gathering at the Srirangam Panchayat Sabha meeting, highlighting the alarming decay of rural governance across Tamil Nadu under the AIADMK regime. Speaking directly to grassroots residents, Stalin highlighted how the state administration had systematically crippled village civic infrastructure by leaving local bodies without elected representatives for over two years. He condemned the ruling party for lacking the political courage to conduct mandatory panchayat elections, depriving villages of crucial administrative leadership and statutory development funding.
Stalin recalled his tenure as Minister for Rural Development and Local Administration, when he spearheaded progressive decentralization and ensured dedicated allocation of one crore rupees to each village panchayat for essential capital infrastructure. Under DMK governance, concrete village roads, reliable underground drainage systems, clean overhead drinking water tanks, and modern streetlights were systematically constructed across rural pockets. Stalin contrasted this proven development record with the present regime, where corrupt intermediaries mismanaged development funds while basic village amenities deteriorated rapidly.
Stalin promised the gathering that restoring empowered, accountable local self-government will be the foremost priority of a future DMK administration.
