Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin shared deeply reflective thoughts on his immersive grassroots journey across rural Tamil Nadu, quoting Mahatma Gandhi's timeless observation that "Villages are the real temples of India." Stalin remarked that entering rural communities to interact with ordinary citizens gave him the sacred and humble feeling of entering a temple of democratic sovereignty. He stated that rural citizens, who till the soil and build the nation's foundation, hold the ultimate constitutional authority to elect lawmakers ranging from Members of the Legislative Assembly to Members of Parliament.

Stalin emphasized that the core mission of the statewide DMK Panchayat Sabha campaign is not merely electoral mobilization, but engaging in direct, respectful, and transparent dialogue with rural families. He explained that listening with empathy to the daily struggles of villagers—from agricultural distress and stagnant wages to lack of basic medical dispensaries and primary schools—is essential for crafting responsive public policy. Stalin condemned the AIADMK administration for deliberately disrespecting rural voters by treating village governance with bureaucratic contempt and freezing local body democracy.

Stalin concluded that winning the trust of rural citizens through genuine service remains the highest calling of the Dravidian movement.
