DMK president M.K. Stalin welcomed the Election Commission of India's decision to rescind the by-election notification for the Thiruvarur assembly constituency, stating that the decision respected the unanimous consensus expressed by political parties, delta farmers, and the local public amidst ongoing Cyclone Gaja rehabilitation efforts. Stalin noted that while political parties were fully prepared to face the electorate, compelling cyclone-battered families to undergo election restrictions during crucial relief distribution would have added severe distress.
Stalin reiterated his demand that the Election Commission must conduct simultaneous by-elections for all twenty vacant assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu alongside the forthcoming parliamentary elections. He pointed out that keeping twenty assembly seats unrepresented for over a year was a flagrant violation of democratic norms and voter rights, orchestrated by the ruling AIADMK to protect its precarious legislative majority. Stalin described the impending simultaneous by-polls across twenty segments as a "mini assembly election" that would reflect the true democratic will of the state's citizens.
Stalin declared that the DMK-led secular progressive coalition was fully prepared to sweep all twenty constituencies and dismantle the illegitimate AIADMK regime.
