DMK president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin raised pressing demands in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly concerning the plight of citizens devastated by Cyclone Gaja across the Cauvery delta and coastal districts. Stalin passionately urged the state government to immediately sanction a comprehensive debt waiver package to restore shattered rural livelihoods and provide meaningful economic relief to disaster-stricken families.

Stalin specifically demanded the unconditional waiver of all crop loans, agricultural cooperative debts, education loans taken by rural students, loans secured by traditional fishermen to purchase boats and fishing gear, and microfinance loans obtained by women self-help groups across cyclone-hit regions. He pointed out that farmers had suffered catastrophic losses with centuries-old trees uprooted, fertile agricultural lands salinized, and fishing boats wrecked beyond repair. Relying on piecemeal token doles while financial institutions and banks continued aggressive debt recovery was heartless and unacceptable. Stalin asserted that the state government must mobilize dedicated financial resources and aggressively pressure the central BJP government to release adequate national disaster relief funds.

Stalin warned that the DMK will continue to fight inside and outside the legislature until full relief reaches every affected family.
