Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin exposed a massive new corruption scandal involving Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani, revealing that the minister had orchestrated fresh fraudulent practices in awarding municipal corporation tenders worth over 740 crore rupees for road laying and stormwater drain construction in Chennai and Coimbatore. Stalin pointed out that Velumani brazenly engineered these corrupt syndicates even while already facing an active High Court corruption petition filed by the DMK.

Stalin presented specific details showing that civic tenders were systematically manipulated, cartelized, and awarded at heavily inflated rates to benami firms, close associates, and family syndicates of the minister, completely shutting out genuine competitive bidders. He remarked that public funds allocated for vital urban flood prevention infrastructure were being brazenly looted, leaving urban residents vulnerable to severe waterlogging during monsoons. Stalin warned the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) to discharge its statutory duties without fear or political subservience by immediately registering a First Information Report (FIR) against the minister.

Stalin declared that if the anti-corruption agency failed to initiate prompt criminal proceedings, the DMK will directly move the High Court for independent judicial prosecution.
