DMK president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the AIADMK administration for abruptly adjourning the Special Session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly without permitting an extensive, dedicated debate on the immense destruction caused by Cyclone Gaja. Stalin stated that he had formally placed a motion requesting the Speaker and the government to extend the assembly session by an additional day to facilitate a comprehensive discussion on the relief, compensation, and rehabilitation measures required for affected delta and coastal districts.
Stalin pointed out that when lakhs of citizens across Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, and Dindigul districts were enduring unimaginable misery without homes, livelihoods, drinking water, or electricity, the state government displayed shocking insensitivity by refusing to devote even a single full working day in the legislature to address their suffering. He remarked that the ruling dispensation was terrified of facing legislative scrutiny over its glaring administrative delays, botched damage enumerations, and partisan relief distributions.
Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently champion the rights of cyclone-affected communities inside the assembly and across public platforms until full relief is delivered.
