DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound gratitude and heartiest congratulations to leaders of political parties, farmers' associations, trade unions, students, and citizens who participated in the massive, historic protest demonstration held in Tiruchirappalli to defend Tamil Nadu's life-giving river, the Cauvery, and fiercely oppose Karnataka's proposed Mekedatu reservoir. Stalin declared that the overwhelming public uprising in Tiruchi had delivered a thunderous shock to both the central and state governments.
Stalin poignantly observed that Cauvery is not merely a flowing river of water, but the sacred mother and lifeblood of Tamil Nadu, sustaining agriculture, culture, and civilization across the delta for millennia. Protecting the rights of this mother was the collective, non-negotiable duty of every Tamil citizen. He pointed out that Karnataka's attempt to build a reservoir at Mekedatu with a storage capacity of over 67 thousand million cubic feet would permanently transform the fertile Cauvery delta into an arid desert. Stalin emphasized that the resounding protest initiated in Tiruchi was not an isolated event, but the sparks of a spreading statewide movement.
Stalin resolved that the DMK will persistently lead public mobilizations until the central government revokes all clearances for Mekedatu.
