Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed a mammoth and historic all-party protest demonstration in Tiruchirappalli, mobilizing hundreds of thousands of farmers, youth, trade unionists, and citizens against the central government's treacherous approval granted to Karnataka for the Mekedatu balancing reservoir project. Standing shoulder to shoulder with leaders of allied political parties, Stalin declared that the resounding roar of protest echoing from the banks of the Cauvery in Tiruchi would shatter the arrogant complacency of rulers in New Delhi and Chennai.

Stalin pointed out that the Cauvery is the civilizational lifeline and mother of Tamil Nadu, sustaining generations of agricultural families across the fertile delta. Permitting Karnataka to construct another massive dam across the river would permanently starve the delta of its rightful water share, turning the state's granary into a parched desert. Stalin administered a resolute pledge to the massive gathering: "We shall fight, and we shall continue to fight without pause until our constitutional riparian rights are completely restored and secured." He warned that no political force could silence the collective wrath of Tamil Nadu's farming populace.

Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently lead the democratic resistance to safeguard the delta.
