DMK president M.K. Stalin convened a crucial all-party meeting at the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam in Chennai, bringing together leaders of diverse political parties to formulate a united, decisive strategy against Karnataka's contentious Mekedatu balancing reservoir project. Presiding over the comprehensive deliberations, Stalin emphasized that the central government's unilateral decision granting preliminary clearance for Karnataka's project report posed an existential threat to Tamil Nadu's agricultural future and drinking water security.
The all-party conclave adopted a unanimous, strongly worded resolution condemning the central Bharatiya Janata Party government for its high-handed, partisan conduct and demanding the immediate cancellation of permissions granted by the Central Water Commission. In addition, the meeting resolved to organize a mammoth "Grand Protest Demonstration" on December 4 in Tiruchirappalli, mobilizing lakhs of farmers, political cadres, and citizens across the Cauvery basin. Stalin stated that the protest would demonstrate Tamil Nadu's collective, unshakeable determination to defend its historic riparian rights against central betrayal and neighborly aggression.
Stalin called upon all sections of society to transcend political differences and join the Tiruchi demonstration in massive numbers to protect the life-giving Cauvery river.
