DMK president M.K. Stalin announced that an all-party meeting would be held at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai to formulate a collective strategy against the central government's preliminary approval for Karnataka's proposed Mekedatu reservoir project. Stalin declared that the Union Bharatiya Janata Party government's decision to permit Karnataka to prepare a detailed project report across the Cauvery river posed an existential threat to Tamil Nadu's agrarian economy and regional water security.
Stalin explained that constructing a reservoir at Mekedatu directly violates the final verdict of the Supreme Court and the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. By impounding surplus waters and obstructing natural river flows, the project would devastate the livelihood of delta farmers who depend entirely on Cauvery releases for seasonal irrigation. He criticized the central leadership for acting in a partisan manner and compromising the lawful riparian rights of Tamil Nadu to secure political gains in Karnataka.
The all-party conclave aimed to bring together diverse political organizations, farmer associations, and civic groups to demand the unconditional withdrawal of central clearances. Stalin stressed that united public mobilization was urgently needed to defend the state's rightful water entitlements.
