DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the arbitrary arrest of a distressed farmer who attempted to submit a grievance petition to Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami during an official tour. Stalin criticized the severe police restrictions that prohibited ordinary citizens from walking along public roads traveled by the chief minister's convoy, describing these heavy-handed measures as autocratic and deeply disrespectful of democratic rights.
Stalin pointed out that elected leaders in a democracy have a fundamental duty to listen directly to the petitions and distress of the public, especially during periods of agrarian crisis and natural disaster. Suppressing public interaction and treating petition-bearing farmers as security threats demonstrates cowardice and deep administrative paranoia. He questioned how many more repressive measures the ruling AIADMK regime intended to deploy to shield itself from public anger.
Stalin warned the state leadership that while ministers might temporarily hide behind police barricades and restricted routes, they cannot escape democratic accountability in the people's court. He demanded the immediate release of the arrested farmer and urged the government to end oppressive policing and establish accessible grievance mechanisms for rural citizens.
