DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized the ruling AIADMK government for securing the premature release of three party convicts involved in the infamous Dharmapuri bus burning case. Stalin asserted that the state leadership utilized its proximity to the Governor's office to orchestrate the release of individuals convicted of heinous political violence that resulted in the horrific death of three college students. He condemned this action as a blatant perversion of executive clemency that rewards partisan loyalty over constitutional justice.
Stalin contrasted this selective expedience with the persistent administrative delay regarding the release of A.G. Perarivalan and six other long-term convicts who had languished in prison for over twenty-seven years. Although the Tamil Nadu cabinet had unanimously adopted a resolution recommending their release under Article 161 of the Constitution, the state government failed to assertively pursue its approval with the Governor.
Stalin questioned why the ruling administration displayed aggressive enthusiasm to free its own party cadres while maintaining complete subservience before the Governor on an issue involving widespread public sentiment. He urged the government to act impartially and uphold constitutional dignity. He reaffirmed that equal justice under the law must never be subordinated to political favoritism.
