DMK president M.K. Stalin concluded a comprehensive two-day inspection across districts devastated by Cyclone Gaja, expressing deep heartache over the harrowing plight of affected communities. Stalin described witnessing weeping families surrounded by flattened coconut plantations, destroyed houses, and ruined crops. He noted that widespread devastation had crippled the regional economy, leaving hundreds of thousands of rural residents without electricity, clean drinking water, or communication links for four consecutive days.
Stalin emphasized that disaster victims do not need superficial sympathy or empty administrative platitudes; they urgently require massive, coordinated physical reconstruction. Flattened agricultural livelihoods, particularly multi-year coconut orchards that formed the backbone of rural family incomes, demanded comprehensive compensation packages rather than token relief doles. In addition, restoring the collapsed electrical infrastructure requires mobilizing thousands of utility workers from unaffected districts on a wartime footing.
Stalin demanded that the Tamil Nadu government immediately dispatch specialized task forces to restore electricity, deploy heavy machinery to clear arterial roads, and distribute direct financial grants to reconstruct collapsed homes. He affirmed that the DMK will persistently monitor recovery work across the delta. Stalin stressed that collective dedication is essential to rebuild rural prosperity.
