DMK president M.K. Stalin observed a sharp contrast between initial administrative claims and actual ground reality while inspecting cyclone-affected districts, characterizing the state's post-disaster rescue operations as thoroughly deficient. Stalin noted that while he had previously commended the Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority for its early storm warnings and advisories, ground inspections revealed that the administrative apparatus had virtually collapsed once Cyclone Gaja made landfall.
Stalin pointed out that interior rural hamlets remained completely cut off without emergency aid, drinking water, or communication links. Fallen trees and smashed power pylons continued to block village roads, while local administrative officials were conspicuously missing from vulnerable settlements. He questioned why Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami hesitated to undertake direct ground inspections and assess the acute misery of affected rural populations firsthand.
Stalin demanded that the state government immediately deploy emergency disaster response forces, heavy earthmoving equipment, and medical teams to remote hamlets. He stressed that administrative competence is measured by the speed and efficacy of post-calamity rehabilitation rather than pre-storm public relations announcements, urging the leadership to prioritize immediate relief delivery. He reiterated that administrative promises must translate into tangible ground support for affected families.
