DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly criticized the Central Bureau of Investigation for filing a preliminary chargesheet in the multi-crore Gutkha scam that conspicuously omitted the names of Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar and the Director General of Police. Stalin pointed out that judicial directives and documentary evidence seized during earlier tax searches explicitly implicated senior political figures and top police officials in receiving regular kickbacks to permit the unlawful manufacturing and distribution of banned tobacco products across Tamil Nadu.
Stalin questioned why central investigators rushed to file an incomplete chargesheet excluding the primary beneficiaries and orchestrators of the racket. He asked whether this exclusion was designed to facilitate the escape of influential figures or executed under direct instructions from political authorities in New Delhi. By limiting prosecution to lower-level operatives, the investigative agency effectively compromised the integrity of a court-monitored anti-corruption probe.
Stalin demanded that investigative agencies adhere strictly to constitutional norms and file supplementary chargesheets naming all political and administrative conspirators without bias. He affirmed that the DMK will continue its sustained legal struggle to ensure comprehensive prosecution of all individuals involved in institutionalized corruption.
