DMK president M.K. Stalin responded to the landfall of Cyclone Gaja in coastal Tamil Nadu by commending the Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority for its proactive early warning advisories and pre-storm evacuation measures. Stalin noted that timely weather alerts and public safety protocols helped minimize initial casualties as the severe storm crossed the coastline near Nagapattinam with gale-force winds exceeding one hundred kilometers per hour.
However, Stalin emphasized that disaster management cannot end with early warnings; the true test of governance lies in the rapid execution of post-calamity restoration. He urged the state administration to extend full institutional cooperation to disaster agencies and mobilize government machinery with cyclonic speed. The devastation demanded immediate deployment of specialized engineering crews to clear uprooted trees, reconstruct collapsed electrical transmission towers, and restore drinking water supplies.
Stalin called upon ministers and senior bureaucrats to supervise field restoration directly rather than issuing routine advisories from state headquarters. He stressed that tens of thousands of displaced families housed in relief camps required immediate nutritional support, sanitary provisions, and continuous healthcare monitoring to prevent epidemics. He stressed that administrative speed is essential to alleviate distress.
