Had a good meeting with @SitaramYechury. We discussed in detail about the alliance in order to defeat the BJP government at the Centre in the 2019 General Elections. #RoadTo2019 https://t.co/uipkepTyJ2

DMK president M.K. Stalin held a high-level consultative meeting with Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury in Chennai to deliberate on electoral coordination and national alliance strategy ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha general elections. Both leaders discussed the imperative necessity of unifying regional, secular, and progressive democratic forces across India on a common platform to unseat the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government.
Stalin emphasized that the central administration had systematically undermined constitutional conventions, eroded parliamentary autonomy, and imposed anti-federal policies that severely infringed upon states' rights. In addition, reckless economic measures including demonetization and hasty taxation restructuring had crippled rural livelihoods and decimated small industries. He noted that progressive parties shared a historic responsibility to transcend regional boundaries and forge a formidable electoral front to safeguard democracy, social diversity, and economic equity.
Yechury and Stalin agreed to maintain close coordination among regional and national opposition parties to present a coherent alternative to the electorate. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will spearhead an inclusive democratic coalition in Tamil Nadu to deliver a decisive electoral verdict against authoritarian central governance.
