DMK president M.K. Stalin held detailed political discussions in Chennai with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, focusing on the urgent need to protect the constitutional rights of states against aggressive centralization by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government. Stalin invoked the historic vision articulated by DMK founder C.N. Annadurai, who defined the foundational compass of the Indian republic as autonomy for the states and genuine federalism at the Centre.
Stalin emphasized that the federal framework conceived by India's constitutional architects was facing systematic subversion through unilateral financial policies, gubernatorial interference, and encroachment on state legislative domains. Both leaders shared deep alarm over the erosion of independent institutions and agreed that regional parties must collaborate closely to protect state sovereignty, democratic norms, and equitable financial devolution.
Stalin asserted that safeguarding the Constitution requires regional leaders to unite across state borders and counter authoritarian tendencies. He reaffirmed the DMK's historical commitment to fighting for state autonomy, declaring that the alliance between regional forces will champion decentralization and ensure that the diverse cultural and political identities of India's states remain protected against coercive uniformity.
