Had a great meeting with @ncbn today. I extend my full support to a grand alliance of secular forces with the single goal of overthrowing a fascist BJP that has completely destroyed the inclusive nature of our democracy. https://t.co/EtixAPCY4n

Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu in Chennai, formally extending wholehearted support to the formation of a nationwide grand alliance of secular and democratic political parties. Stalin affirmed that the overriding objective of this coalition is to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government, which he characterized as an autocratic regime that has dismantled India's constitutional principles and secular fabric.

Stalin emphasized that the central dispensation had systematically weakened democratic institutions, suppressed dissent, and compromised federal autonomy. By centralizing decision-making and imposing polarizing policies, the Union leadership had severely eroded the inclusive and diverse character of the republic. Stalin stated that regional leaders must set aside secondary differences and coordinate closely to build an unshakeable pan-Indian democratic front capable of presenting a progressive governance alternative.

The meeting highlighted growing synchronization among non-BJP political parties ahead of the 2019 parliamentary elections. Stalin asserted that Tamil Nadu will stand firmly at the forefront of this national coalition to protect democratic liberties, defend the rights of states, and restore constitutional governance across the nation.
