Strong & independent institutions are crucial for #Democracy to prosper. But PM Modi's tenure has seen the degradation of some (Planning Commission) and the complete suppression of others - the Election Commission, the CBI & now the #RBI. Our Democratic model is under grave risk. https://t.co/RNe5ksDmMi

DMK leader M.K. Stalin criticized the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for steadily undermining independent democratic institutions across India. He stated that robust, autonomous public bodies are essential for democratic governance and constitutional federalism to function effectively, but central policies have steadily eroded institutional independence, public trust, and administrative neutrality.
Stalin noted that the tenure of the current central administration began with dismantling established advisory bodies such as the Planning Commission. He observed that constitutional and regulatory authorities, including the Election Commission of India and the Central Bureau of Investigation, have faced persistent political interference. The latest administrative friction involving the Reserve Bank of India further signaled growing executive overreach into financial regulation, reserve management, and institutional policy autonomy.
Stalin warned that continuous administrative interference in statutory regulators places India's constitutional framework and democratic traditions at grave risk. He stressed that autonomous public institutions must be allowed to discharge their statutory responsibilities without partisan pressure or executive meddling, urging citizens, parliamentarians, and political parties nationwide to unite and defend democratic checks and balances against authoritarian centralized control.
