DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound concern over sudden political developments in Sri Lanka and the prolonged delay in releasing the seven Tamil life convicts. He questioned whether the Union government remained indifferent to rapid administrative shifts in Colombo that troubled Tamils worldwide. He insisted that New Delhi must actively monitor regional developments to protect the legitimate rights, livelihood, and physical security of the Tamil community.
Stalin highlighted the continued detention of the seven convicts in Tamil Nadu despite the state cabinet passing a formal resolution recommending their premature release. He pointed out that official procrastination between the central government and the Governor's office caused extreme distress to their families. He stated that New Delhi's continued inaction on genuine humanitarian appeals reflected an unacceptable disregard for the collective sentiment of the Tamil people.
Stalin urged the Bharatiya Janata Party administration to halt actions contrary to Tamil interests, both domestically and internationally. He asserted that India's foreign policy must prioritize the dignity, safety, and democratic rights of Sri Lankan Tamils while honoring lawful state decisions regarding the release of long-term incarcerated prisoners.
