DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the arrest of civic volunteers in Chitlapakkam who questioned municipal officials over public works executed without mandatory tenders. Local youth and social activists had raised legitimate questions regarding substandard road and drainage construction carried out through unauthorized contracts. Instead of investigating the complaint, local authorities registered fabricated police cases against the whistleblowers, arresting those defending community welfare, public funds, and local infrastructure standards.
Stalin questioned why raising voices against municipal corruption in the local administration department was treated as a crime. He pointed out that civic oversight and citizen participation are constitutional rights essential for maintaining transparency in public works. The intimidation and unlawful detention of active citizens demonstrated an autocratic mindset seeking to shield corrupt contractors and complicit administrative officials from public scrutiny, exposure, and legal consequences.
Stalin demanded the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all false charges against the Chitlapakkam volunteers and their prompt release from custody. He further urged senior administrative authorities to inspect the irregular civic works, conduct transparent audits, and penalize officials responsible for executing un-tendered projects at public expense.
