DMK president M.K. Stalin condemned the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Societies Election Commission and its polling officers for conducting cooperative body elections in a blatant, partisan manner favoring the ruling AIADMK. Stalin described the process as an outright murder of democracy, stating that electoral authorities acted in direct contravention of binding directives issued by the Madras High Court. The judiciary had explicitly mandated fair procedures, transparent nomination processing, and impartial polling supervision across all societies.
Stalin highlighted widespread malpractice reported across rural and urban cooperative bodies, including the illegal rejection of opposition nomination papers, arbitrary disqualifications, and police intimidation of non-ruling candidates. Rather than functioning as an autonomous oversight body, the cooperative election commission operated as a subservient instrument of the ruling party to capture administrative boards illegally. This systematic subversion denied genuine grassroots cooperators and farmers their democratic right to elect representatives.
Stalin declared that unbridled hooliganism, administrative transgressions, and abuse of state machinery had become the hallmark of AIADMK governance. He demanded that higher judicial authorities intervene to quash rigged cooperative elections, initiate contempt proceedings against errant officials, and restore constitutional norms to the cooperative sector.
