DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for lacking the moral courage to directly confront serious corruption charges pending against him, choosing instead to field party organizational secretary C. Ponnaiyan to issue political rebuttals. Stalin asserted that delegating personal legal defenses to party spokespersons proved beyond doubt that the documented corruption complaints submitted by the DMK were entirely truthful, substantive, and legally unassailable.
Stalin pointed out that the charges involved massive irregularities in the allocation of multi-thousand-crore highway tenders to the Chief Minister's close relatives and business associates. A constitutional chief minister facing judicial scrutiny for abuse of official position owes a direct, transparent explanation to the citizens and the state legislature. Evading public accountability while deploying party functionaries to offer flimsy excuses exposed a guilty conscience and administrative cowardice.
Stalin further noted that the ruling regime's autocratic conduct had systematically destroyed the autonomy of state investigative and regulatory institutions. By manipulating state machinery to conceal executive graft, the administration had compromised the rule of law. He insisted that the Chief Minister must resign immediately to allow an unfettered legal investigation into tender allocation irregularities.
