DMK president M.K. Stalin urged the Central Bureau of Investigation to immediately take custody of all case files and launch its preliminary probe into Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami without delay. Stalin noted that Palaniswami's legal counsel had brazenly argued before the Madras High Court that there was nothing irregular about awarding lucrative government contracts to close relatives. He warned that having such an attitude while controlling the state administrative machinery posed a severe risk of evidence destruction.
Stalin emphasized that as long as Palaniswami retained executive authority, vital digital records, tender evaluation sheets, and official communications within the state highways department remained highly vulnerable to tampering or deletion. With junior officials working under immense political duress, delayed action by federal investigators would provide the accused adequate opportunity to conceal documentary paper trails.
Calling for swift preventive action, Stalin demanded that federal officers secure departmental records, seal relevant administrative offices, and question key decision-makers immediately. He asserted that timely investigative intervention is crucial to ensure that powerful political figures cannot subvert judicial scrutiny, erase evidence of financial favoritism, or escape criminal accountability under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
