DMK president M.K. Stalin questioned the AIADMK government's decision to import coal through private corporate entities such as the Adani Group at prices exceeding 150 percent of prevailing market rates without conducting transparent competitive bidding. Stalin characterized the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board as having deteriorated into a hub of massive administrative corruption under ruling party control, citing previous scandals involving windmill power purchases and domestic coal procurement.
Stalin observed that relaxing procurement guidelines under the pretext of emergency coal requirements directly served corporate beneficiaries at immense cost to the state exchequer. Bypassing global competitive tendering procedures to hand over lucrative supply contracts to favoured corporate giants revealed an organized nexus of high-level kickbacks and administrative compromise. He pointed out that paying inflated prices for imported fuel would further cripple the financially beleaguered electricity utility.
Demanding a comprehensive judicial inquiry into TANGEDCO's coal procurement agreements, Stalin asserted that the public has a constitutional right to know why competitive bidding was circumvented. He warned that responsible officials and ministers would eventually be held accountable for squandering public resources through inflated commercial contracts.
