DMK president M.K. Stalin accused the ruling AIADMK administration of using the state Chief Secretary as a political mouthpiece to orchestrate the postponement of assembly by-elections in Tamil Nadu. Stalin stated that the state government, lacking the democratic confidence to conduct even long-delayed local body polls, was terrified of facing the electorate in legislative by-elections because ruling party candidates would be decisively rejected by voters across constituencies.
Stalin highlighted that the Chief Secretary had written to the Election Commission citing weather forecasts and administrative preoccupations to stall polls in Thiruparankundram and Thiruvarur. He pointed out that utilizing senior civil servants to invent flimsy pretexts for delaying constitutional electoral processes compromised administrative neutrality and reduced top bureaucrats to partisan instruments of the ruling party. Such conduct subverted the democratic rights of voters who remained unrepresented.
Stalin declared that fear of electoral rout could not justify constitutional subversion and prolonged suspension of representative democracy in vacant assembly seats. He asserted that people across Tamil Nadu were eager to register their democratic discontent, demanding that the Election Commission reject bureaucratic excuses and notify by-elections without further unconstitutional delay.
