DMK president M.K. Stalin questioned why Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit remained completely inactive for over a year regarding comprehensive, evidence-backed corruption complaints submitted by the DMK concerning vice-chancellor appointments. Stalin noted that while the Governor now publicly acknowledged that university vice-chancellor positions were distributed in exchange for bribes amounting to tens of crores, his prolonged administrative silence when presented with detailed documentary dossiers was inexplicable.
Stalin pointed out that the DMK had repeatedly met the Governor, submitted formal memorandums, and highlighted specific instances of financial irregularities in academic recruitments across state universities. Instead of initiating prompt vigilance inquiries or lodging criminal complaints against responsible ministers and syndicate members, the Governor sat on the files, allowing corrupt appointment syndicates to operate unchecked throughout the higher education system.
Stalin asked what prevented the Governor from taking timely action when evidence was placed before him by the principal opposition party. He asserted that belated public acknowledgments without statutory consequences could not absolve constitutional authorities of their responsibility, demanding that all past vice-chancellor appointments tainted by financial irregularities be subjected to an independent judicial investigation.
