DMK president M.K. Stalin directed party functionaries and grassroots volunteers across Tamil Nadu to prepare for proactive flood rescue and relief operations ahead of anticipated severe monsoon weather. Stalin highlighted that official audits conducted by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India conclusively established that bureaucratic lethargy, delayed reservoir discharges, and administrative negligence severely magnified civilian suffering during the catastrophic December 2015 Chennai floods, Cyclone Vardah, and Cyclone Ockhi.
Stalin observed that the ruling AIADMK government had consistently failed to learn crucial lessons from past natural disasters or execute essential pre-monsoon desilting and drainage maintenance works. Because administrative agencies repeatedly left citizens stranded during meteorological crises, he urged DMK workers not to depend on sluggish government interventions. Instead, he asked party units to establish localized relief committees, coordinate emergency provisions, and assist vulnerable neighborhoods immediately.
Stalin called upon cadre to stock essential relief supplies, including clean drinking water, food packets, emergency lighting, and first-aid kits in flood-prone localities. He emphasized that the DMK's foundational ethos is serving the public in times of calamity, urging party workers to stand resolutely beside affected families and provide selfless humanitarian assistance throughout the monsoon.
